Synopsis[]
After being wrangled and arrested in a giant donut—compliments of Officer Judy Hopps—clever criminal weasel Duke reevaluates his life, pondering where he went wrong—in song. In a musical aptly staged in his own mind, Duke contemplates how to go from a small time crook to the Big Time!
Plot[]
After having been let out of jail, Duke Weaselton is reprimanded by Officer Francine about his behavior. Duke announces that he is the "Duke of Weasel Town" when he spots the news reporting on his humiliating arrest by Judy Hopps, who is still considered a meter maid. Duke is embarrassed and runs to hide in an alley where he starts to reevaluate his life, during which he snatches an elderly goat's wallet. In a musical number, he considers several different jobs he could have taken to be a success, but comes to the conclusion that his checkered past is an issue. Nevertheless, he decides to turn his life around by returning the wallet, only for an armored truck to hit the goat, though she miraculously survives. Seeing the bags of money on the ground, convinces Duke to continue his crime spree as he is chased by police.
Overlap with Zootopia[]
When Duke leaves the ZPD headquarters and brags about being "big time" he's interrupted by a ZNN news report showing how embarrassing and demeaning his arrest actually was. This section includes scenes from the film such as Duke skating through Little Rodentia using cars as skates, Duke leaping across the roofs of buildings causing them to topple like dominoes, Duke being apprehended by Judy using the donut sign, and Duke being rolled into the ZPD lobby while inside the donut.
The episode implies that these scenes were captured by external cameras and obtained by ZNN. However, in the film, the shot of Judy capturing Duke with the donut was shown from Duke's point of view and there's no way an external camera could have captured that.
Trivia[]
- Duke calls himself the Duke of Weaseltown, which referenced the Duke of Weselton from Frozen, whose name gets constantly pronounced Weaseltown. Also both characters are voiced by Alan Tudyk.
- The crown and robe that Duke wears in the musical number resembles the one Prince John wears in Disney's Robin Hood.
- The date on the certificate for Duke's "Totally Legit University" is March 4, 2016, the same date the original film was released.
