- “Oh, darling, it's the size of your heart that matters. And with these wheels... you'll never feel small.”
- ―Grandmama giving young Mr. Big a bicycle
Grandmama is a late female arctic shrew who was the grandmother of Mr. Big and the great-grandmother of Fru Fru in Zootopia. She was a member of the Big family.
Physical Appearance[]
Grandmama is an old, wrinkly arctic shrew with pale brown fur, blue eyes, a crooked snout and thick, dark eyebrows.
In her portrait in the film and The Godfather of the Bride, she has a large bouffant hairdo similar to Fru Fru's, albeit white. She wears a red dress and a pendant necklace.
When she first moves to Zootopia, she wears a crimson dress with pink spots, a pink hood and a white waist apron with flower designs and pockets on both sides. She also wears a red head scarf from which her long, gray hair protrudes.
She retains this look in a family portrait seen in The Real Rodents of Little Rodentia that looks much more recent, in which she uses a gray metal cane with a black handle and bottom.
Personality[]
Grandmama was a gentle kindhearted shrew with a compassionate and caring heart. Grandmama was also understanding and forgiving, caring more about the thought of the effort one puts at something than its success. She was very optimistic and induced hope to others with comfort and love, seeing the potential in many things. She was also a little cowardly in the face of those bigger than her, but she could also be very brave when animals worked together.
Role in the Film[]
Prior to the events of the film, Mr. Big introduced Nick Wilde to Grandmama, who made him a cannoli.
During his discussion with Nick, he mentions Grandmama and how Nick's actions were disrespectful to them. He recalls how Nick had once sold him an "expensive wool rug", that was revealed to have actually been made with fur from a skunk's rear end after Grandmama died and was buried in it. =

The Godfather of the Bride[]
At Fru Fru's wedding Mr. Big honors Grandmama and recounts the story of when they first emigrated to Zootopia from the Old Country. They were cheerful and hopeful for a bright future at the start of their journey, but after a treacherous boat ride, they arrived and saw that small rodents like them were looked down upon and forced into poor living conditions. Still determined, she built a home for herself and young Mr. Big out of a box, in which she started a bakery for which Mr. Big was the delivery boy. She encouraged him as he struggled, and gave him a bicycle to help him not feel so small, which he cherished greatly. With the help of new friends like young Koslov, they eventually made quite a bit of money as their business gained traction and earned its place among the community. One day, the Rhino Boss and his thugs came to terrorize the neighborhood, and crushed Mr. Big's bicycle and stole all the bakery's money. Grandmama and everyone else ran and hid, and she encouraged Mr. Big to do the same, but when he decided to stand up to the Rhino Boss, she joined everyone to help him make sure the rhino would never bother them again. After this, the bakery business thrived and expanded, and Grandmama and Mr. Big were reunited with the rest of their family, whom Koslov helped bring over from the Old Country. She tells Mr. Big how proud of him she is when he goes on to found Little Rodentia.
