Not a Real Cop is a score for Zootopia.

Role in the Film[]

Not a Real Cop is heard near the middle of the film during the scene where Judy Hopps returns to her apartment and is depressed after a bad first day at work which is not helped by a uninspiring Muzzletime call from Bonnie and Stu Hopps.

They notice that she is a meter maid and rejoice that she's safe because she's not a real cop, which only adds to Judy's depression. Then Judy quickly turns off the radio after her neighbor tells her to turn down that "depressing music".

Trivia[]

  • This composition is the primary expression of The Emotional Theme. For more details see Suite from Zootopia.

Observations[]

When Judy returns to her apartment, she attempts to cheer herself up with some music but every song that comes up on her radio has lyrics dealing with hurt, loneliness, failure, or being a loser.

She hits the radio one last time and turns away as Not a Real Cop begins to play leading the audience to believe it is the soundtrack beginning to play (ie Non-Diegetic music). The music plays in the background as Judy makes her dinner and then endures the phone call from her folks.

It's only as her neighbor calls attention to the "depressing music" that we realize it's been actually playing on the radio (Diegetic music) the whole time.
