Synopsis[]
ZPD dispatcher Clawhauser persuades his boss, Chief Bogo, to audition for “So You Think You Can Prance.” The stakes are high as the ultimate prize is a dream-come-true opportunity to dance on stage with megastar pop sensation Gazelle.
Plot[]
Benjamin Clawhauser is at work watching So You Think You Can Prance on his phone when Gazelle announces that she is looking for her next backup dancer and that anyone can audition as long as they have a partner and come down to the Zootopia Auditorium. Clawhauser calls for backup and rushes to the audition. He is surprised to find that Chief Bogo answered the call and accepts him under the guise that it is part of a covert operation. The two of them go backstage and get dressed up in makeup and tights. Just before going out, Clawhauser reveals that this is just an ordinary audition, upsetting Bogo. Clawhauser futilely attempts to dance by himself as Bogo leaves.
Clawhauser is nearly forced off the stage, but when he falls is suddenly rescued by Bogo who returns clad in his costume. The two perform an aerial dance that wows the judges and awards them the Golden Paw buzzer. Gazelle announces that the two of them are the winners and proceed to dance together as donuts fall from the sky. It is soon revealed that this was all a dream that Clawhauser had as he was checking the Gazelle app. He suddenly gets the call for backup (following Judy and Nick discovering where the missing animals are) and Clawhauser rushes into Chief Bogo's office where he learns that he too has the Gazelle app, exciting him.
Overlap with Zootopia[]
The timeline implies that this episode takes place as Judy and Nick are investigating Cliffside Asylum and have made their escape via the plumbing into the river. However, the episode does not feature Judy or Nick at all as it focuses on Clawhauser's dream to become Gazelle's new backup dancer. Just after he wakes up, Clawhauser receives a call for backup that sends him racing to Bogo's office. From here there's a reuse of the scene where Bogo is discovered playing with the Gazelle app which sends Clawhauser into a squeal of delight. The last few seconds of the scene is definitely a recreation because as Clawhauser says "Ohhhh, Chieeeeeeeef!" he claps his hands together and smiles in glee which he did not do in the film.
Observations[]
One glaring omission in this episode is that Clawhauser receives a call for backup and then apparently dashes straight up to Chief Bogo's office. However, there was no information provided about why there was a call for backup, so Clawhauser must have made a stop somewhere before reaching Bogo's office where he learned about Judy finding all the missing mammals which he then reports to Chief Bogo.
