Hello, my fellow Zootopians! Prepare to get Z.A.P.ped! It's time for this week's edition of the Zootopia Appreciation Post, or Z.A.P. for short. Every Saturday, I'm gonna be posting a different Zootopia-related topic that we can all discuss.
For today's topic, I would like to talk about the Department of Mammal Vehicles.
Apologies for not doing this on Saturday.
The Department of Mammal Vehicles (DMV) is a government agency that administers vehicle registration and driver licensing in Zootopia. Due to the entire staff being sloths, progress at the DMV is nearly stagnant, which can lead to frustration for its customers.
The business is first seen when Judy and Nick go there to learn the owner of the vehicle Emmitt Otterton was last seen in. To Judy's dismay, all of the workers are revealed to be slow-moving sloths. The duo walk up to Flash's window where he calmly and leisurely completes Judy's request. Before he can type the last digit of the license plate number, Nick interrupts to tell Flash a joke, much to Judy's annoyance. Flash then attempts to tell the joke to his co-worker, Priscilla, frustrating Judy further. Flash finally prints out the form, which tells them that the vehicle is a limousine registered to Tundratown Limo Service in Tundratown. By the time they leave, it's nighttime and all of the other employees and customers have all gone home.
When I saw this part the first time, it got a lot of laughs from me. Flash, Priscilla, and the other employees' slowness was meant to make fun of DMV employees in real life. It's funny, 'cause it's true!
And you know what else is funny? According to The Official Zootopia Handbook, the average wait time at the DMV is 7.5 hours, and making an appointment would save you approximately 3 - 10 minutes. 😂
Would you guys like to see the DMV reappear in a potential sequel? I'm not sure how they would do it, but I would certainly like to see it again!
So, what do you guys think? Sound off in the comments below!
