Zootopia+ is an animated series for Disney+ based on Zootopia.
Official Description[]
"Welcome back to the Mammal Metropolis of Zootopia, where directors Trent Correy and Josie Trinidad are creating a short-form series called Zootopia+. Zootopia+ takes a hilarious look at some of the animals we only briefly met in the Oscar-winning film, including Fru Fru, Gazelle’s Tiger Dancers, and our favorite sloth, Flash. We’ll get insight into their lives through the lens of Zootopia’s hottest shows, like The Real Mousewives of Little Rodentia, So You Think You Can Prance, and a show that follows the fast lane of life… at sloth speed. Zootopia+ is set for Disney+, Spring 2022."
Announcement and Production[]
On December 10th, 2020, Disney announced via Twitter and Disney Investor Day 2020, several upcoming animated series based on their films coming to their streaming service, Disney+, one of which being an animated series based on Zootopia.
On September 10, 2022, more details and titles for the show's six episodes were revealed at Disney's D23 Expo 2022. [2]
- Hopp on Board - an action-themed episode following Judy Hopps's little sister, Molly, who boards the train Judy takes to Zootopia, and Bonnie and Stu, who set out to rescue Molly.
- The Real Rodents of Little Rodentia - an episode following Fru Fru and her peers.
- Duke the Musical - a musical episode featuring Duke Weaselton.
- The Godfather of the Bride - a "Sopranos-styled" parody set after Fru Fru's wedding detailing Mr. Big's backstory.
- So You Think You Can Prance - in which Officer Clawhauser and Chief Bogo compete on a dancing game show to win tickets to Gazelle's concert.
- Dinner Rush - an episode centered on Flash and Priscilla Tripletoe going on a date in the style of a romantic comedy.
It is also stated the series takes place during the timeline of the film and will feature appearances from Judy and Nick Wilde.
Zootopia+ was released on November 9, 2022. [3]
Overlap with "Zootopia"[]
Each episode takes place within the timeline of the film and contains a scene or visual reference from the film to establish exactly when it takes place. This means that while there are some places where Judy and/or Nick technically appear in the episodes, it is usually a scene taken directly from the movie or a quick render of their character to provide context for the scene. There is no new dialogue from either character and no new information about the pair is provided by the shorts.
