Plot[]

Officers Hopps and Wilde on a new mission.

Officers Hopps and Wilde on a new mission.

Following on from tricking Dawn Bellwether into confessing her plot to turn every predator in Zootopia savage, and Bellwether's resulting imprisonment, Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde become partners in the Zootopia Police Department. Welcomed by Mayor Winddancer, a former actor, who applauds them for showing that species stereotypes can be moved beyond, Judy expresses her hopes to Nick that a new case comes along so that they can demonstrate they are the best partners.

One week after Judy and Nick become partners, Chief Bogo explains the ZPD's most recent target: Antony Snootley, a customs inspector suspected of running a smuggling operation bringing illegal products into Zootopia through its shipyard. He assigns Captain Hoggbottom and Truffler to take the lead, Officers Higgins and Bloats to take up the middle, and the Zebros to take up the rear. Before he can assign Nick and Judy as observers, given their rookie status, he notices they are not there - at that moment, Officer Clawhauser enters the bullpen to inform Bogo that Nick and Judy are already on site - with their baby.

Nick, Judy, and Finnick arrive at the shipyard disguised as parents with a child. As Nick distracts Antony with a sob story about Finnick's various ailments, Judy sneaks off and tries to open a large crate. Just as Judy is about to open it, Bogo angrily tells them via walkie-talkie that they are not authorized to do so, and orders them to stand down and wait for backup. However, Judy gets the crate open, revealing a large shipment of catnip. Antony, having heard Bogo's voice, realizes Nick and Judy are the police, and steals a catering van to get away. Nick concedes that they lost this one, but a timely arrival by the Frantic pig in his Hog rod allows them to pursue.

As they chase Antony through the city, Captain Hoggbottom catches up to them and orders them to stand down and let the "real teams" handle it, but Judy insists that she and Nick are a real team and speeds up. Nick directs Judy to take a shortcut and they catch up to Anthony, who tries to evade them by taking a bridge. Antony is distracted by a banner blocking his windshield, and then knocked out by a stop sign when he tries to look out of his window, and his van careens toward the Zootennial parade. Against Nick's advice, Judy jumps into the van and steers it away from the crowd, but the van ends up driving off the bridge and destroying the recently-unveiled memorial statue of Ebenezer Lynxley, the founder of Zootopia and inventor of the weather walls. As the Zebros take credit for apprehending Antony, Judy discovers snakeskin at the back of the van, which intrigues her, as there are no snakes in Zootopia.

Dr. Fuzzby assesses the dysfunctional partners.

Dr. Fuzzby assesses the dysfunctional partners.

Back at the ZPD, Bogo and the other officers are furious with Judy and Nick for the chaos and destruction they caused. The argument becomes heated, with Judy attempting to press her case regarding the snake skin she found, and Hoggbottom dengrating Nick and Judy as being 'one hit wonders who should go back to meter maiding and slinging popsicles'. Nick winds Hoggbottom up further by suggesting at first that she was jealous she didn't get to ride in the Hog Rod, and then telling her that she must have thought it looked like her mother. Bogo ejects everyone from his office apart from Nick and Judy. Bogo tells Judy that, despite his best efforts to avoid it, he likes her, but her need to prove herself made her and Nick a headline, and that it not only reflected poorly on themselves, but on Bogo, the ZPD, and any rabbit who wants to follow in Judy's footsteps. Nick interjects, stating that this discussion was clearly between Judy and Bogo, and Bogo asks him why he never takes anything seriously. Nick comments that he jokes because it's a response to a traumatic childhood, to which Bogo retorts by asking if he would like a traumatic adulthood. Nick declines. He gives them a "make or break" assignment, threatening to separate them and bar them from all cases if they are not successful, but that if they were as good as they thought they were, this would be their chance to shine.

This "assignment" involves attending therapy classes for mismatched police partners. Judy insists that she and Nick are not dysfunctional and don't need the therapy, but therapy animal Dr. Fuzzby quickly sees through their facade, pointing out her refusal to let Nick speak and Nick's emotional insecurity being the source of her discomfort. Upon leaving the precinct that day, they are mocked by the other officers. Nick asks whether they need to prove anything to anyone if they believe they are good partners, and Judy affirms that they do, 'forever', before leaving and bidding him a 'happy anniversary'.

Later, Judy is called by Bonnie and Stu, who explain to her what makes a healthy partnership. After the call ends, she turns on the television while studying for her partner therapy class, and sees a report on the Zootennial Gala, where Ebenezer's Lynxley Journal that contains the patent and original plans for the weather walls is set to be on display for the first time. The revered and affluent Lynxley family previously kept it locked away because a hundred years ago when Zootopia was founded, a tortoise was "fanged" while stopping a snake from stealing the journal, and no snake has been in Zootopia since. She notices the catering vans shown on the news are the same as the one Antony used, considers the snakeskin she found in one, and deduces that the snake she found traces of earlier iis likely going to be going for the journal at the gala.

Judy and Nick go undercover at the gala.

Judy and Nick go undercover at the gala.

Judy visits Nick's apartment in an attempt to convince him to go to the gala with her. Nick tells her that if her hunch is wrong, Bogo will split them up. Judy argues that if they don't prove they are good partners, Bogo will split them up anyway. Nick finally agrees, and the two use Judy's meter maid cart to drive to the Lynxley Manor in Tundratown where the gala is being held. Judy and Nick go undercover with communication devices, as well as formal attire to blend in with the guests, which include Mr. Big and Mayor Winddancer, and Chief Bogo. Judy spots the journal surrounded by guards and observes the journal's cover is made of metal. Nick warns Judy that Bogo is at the gala too, and she backs away and bumps into Pawbert, who gets an embarrassed Judy to laugh and warm up to him. Nick tells her that there is nothing suspicious and suggests they call it a night, but Judy turns off her earpiece. Milton Lynxley suddenly arrives with Cattrick and Kitty to reprimand Pawbert, which makes Judy realize that Pawbert is Milton's son and a member of the Lynxley family. As Milton gets on stage, Nick notices a piece of snakeskin. He tries to tell Judy he has a trail as Milton announces his plans to expand Zootopia.

Gary De'Snake, the first snake in Zootopia in one hundred years.

Nick makes his way around the stage and notices a shadowy robed figure on a chandelier before he bumps into Bogo, who grabs him and tells him that both he and Judy are 'done', dragging him out of the gala. In Nick's struggle to get out of Bogo's grip, he kicks a spotlight, which shines on the chandelier and blinds the figure. The figure falls from the chandelier onto the stage, and is revealed to be a venomous pit viper. Panic ensues, and Judy chases the snake as he abducts Milton and steals the Lynxley Journal. Nick gets himself free from Bogo and tries to follow Judy, but a chandelier falls and blocks his path. Judy's pursuit of the snake takes them all around the manor, and ends with her cornering him in Milton's study. The snake claims that snakes aren't the bad guys, the lynxes are, and that he can use the journal to clear their reputation and help his family return home to Zootopia. Judy believes him, but Nick, who just managed to catch up and didn't hear what the snake said, proudly knocks out the snake with a frying pan.

Milton prepares to have Gary killed.

Milton prepares to have Gary killed.

Milton arrives and orders Cattrick and Kitty to kill the snake and burn the journal, since if the snake wants it, it's dangerous. Milton threateningly commands Nick and Judy to file a report claiming the snake attacked them and that they are not to ever mention what really happened. Now intent on protecting the journal, Nick opens a window to escape, but Judy doesn't want to leave without the snake. Nick helps Judy carry Gary out the window, who suddenly jerks awake and accidentally bites Bogo, injecting him with venom. He promises that Bogo can be saved with antivenom he brought, but the Lynxleys tell the Razorbacks that Judy and Nick are helping the snake with his plot and were trying to kill Bogo. Hoggbottom calls for backup. The snake is dropped from the window and is collected by the rider of a motorcyle with a side car, and Judy and Nick take the journal and escape.

Judy consults Mr. Big.

Judy consults Mr. Big.

As they try to escape the approaching police, Mr. Big pulls up in his limousine and his mafia puts the two in the trunk. The news reports that Nick and Judy, described as 'embattled', have become rogue and were responsible for aiding the snake in the fanging of Chief Bogo and the theft of the Lynxley journal. Winddancer confirms that Chief Bogo is currently undergoing treatment for his fanging. Meanwhile, Milton calls Winddancer to his manor, and orders him to pursue Nick and Judy aggressively and to retrieve the journal, making vague threats to Winddancer regarding the fact that Nick and Judy have already taken down two mayors, and questioning whether he was correct to choose Winddancer as the next mayor.

While riding in the trunk of Mr. Big's limousine, Judy is contacted by Bonnie and Stu. Nick quickly destroys her phone so no one can track their location and tells Judy that they did the gala her way, and they are going to deal with Mr. Big his way now. The trunk opens, and Raymond and Kevin grab Nick and Judy and placed on top of a pink suitcase. When the lights come on, they find themselves in a warehouse, the site for Mr. Big and Fru Fru's new fashion business. Mr. Big explains that his new priority is being "Grandpapa" to his granddaughter, Judith, who acts just like him. Knowing the Lynxleys will get rid of anyone who interferes with their expansion of Zootopia, he offers them new clothes, new identities, and a ride out of town. Nick is happy to accept, but Judy is still determined to crack this case, and asks if they know anything about the journal and its connection to snakes. Fru Fru suggests they talk to a podcaster beaver named Nibbles Maplestick, who is a reptile expert.

Nibbles soon pulls up in her car, eager to help. Judy believes she can help them with solving the case and clearing their names, and tells a skeptical Nick they can skip town if they strike out by sunrise. He agrees, and they enter the car and drive away with a thrilled Nibbles, who is convinced they will all be best friends. She introduces them to Marsh Market, a neighborhood for aquatic animals. She explains that the neighborhood was cut off from the rest of Zootopia when the city was founded, and houses a secret reptile population. She suggets that a basilisk named Jesús, who resides in a hideout accessible by ferry, might know about the journal. Along the way, Nick unintentionally insults a dolphin at a bar, and later a sea lion juggler, drawing both the sea lion's ire and Nibbles'. She consults Russ the plumber walrus, and after the two exchange a few "hey bubs", he agrees to give them all a ride, becoming a living ferry by strapping seats to his belly.

Nick fumbles in the Reptile Hangout.

Nick fumbles in the Reptile Hangout.

They arrive at a vertically-sunken ship, which they have to climb through. Divulging his aversion to reptiles, Nick expresses discomfort, to which an amused Judy teases him. Nick then slips and grabs her ears, and the two argue, to which Nibbles wonders how they ever solved anything. Upon reaching the secret Reptile Hangout, Nick struggles to keep his composure as he is weirded out by the reptiles' habits. They meet Jesús, who says he won't say anything unless Judy and Nick eat worms first. They manage to choke some down and the other reptiles cheer before Jesús admits it was a prank upon them. He examines the journal's metal cover and deduces that it the secret is likely within the cover itself, that only snakes can see it, and that this secret is so important that a tortoise died over it. After the tortoise was fanged, mammals stopped trusting reptiles altogether and forced them to leave Zootopia. Jesús also discloses that the Lynxleys intend to expand Tundratown by burying Marsh Market in snow, and Judy counts on the journal's secret being able to stop them.

Following Gary through the Red Line.

Following Gary through the Red Line.

The ZPD tracks Nick and Judy to the hangout and invade it to apprehend them. They escape to the deck, where the snake suddenly appears to steal the journal. He apologies and swallows it before dashing away. Judy commandeers a fishing boat to chase after him as Nick catches up. The ZPD catch up as well and pursue the two by land and by water. Officers Bloats and Higgins nearly reach the boat, and Judy and Nick escape by ringing the bells to summon walruses and using them as stepping stones to the Tube Station. The snake reaches the Tube Station, where Nibbles warns them not to follow if he jumps in the Red Line, which is a drowning hazard for non-aquatic animals. The snake jumps in the Red Line and Judy follows with a reluctant Nick. As they travel through the tube, Nick spots an emergency valve and motions for Judy to take it, but Judy is persistent in her chase of the snake. She grabs the snake's fanny pack before losing consciousness and Nick reaches an exit valve that propels them out of the tube, where they end up at the base of the Cliffs of Copenhoofen.

Climbing the Cliffs of Copenhoofen.

Climbing the Cliffs of Copenhoofen.

Nick is angry at Judy for almost getting them killed, but Judy is mad at him for making them lose track of the snake. Judy spots the snake's fanny pack and looks inside to find a matchbox with a flower design. Two mountain goats call out to them, and Judy notices they are eating the same kind of flowers depicted on the matchbox. She asks them about the flowers, which they tell her grow at the top of the cliff near the abandoned Honeymoon Lodge, which is now a snake hideout. Judy climbs up the cliff with a frustrated Nick following. He tells her to slow down, but she insists that, with the ZPD on their trail and likely to find them soon, they should be going faster. Nick takes out her carrot pen and smugly replays her previously recorded sentiment of "I really am just a dumb bunny" over and over for her to hear. Judy angrily takes it back, saying it was a gift to symbolize their partnership. Nick sarcastically remarks that he is using it to jot down ideas for what to engrave on their tombstones. As they fight over then pen, their argument intensifies and they lose their grip on it, causing it to shatter as it falls to the ground. Devastated, Judy hurries up the cliff and leaves Nick behind. They reach the lodge, where Judy finds information about an ancient city district called Reptile Ravine, which was buried in snow to expand Tundratown. Captain Hoggbottom and the ZPD arrive and find the remains of the carrot pen, realising they had gone up the cliff. She sends Officers Bûcheron and Chèvre up the cliffs to apprehend Nick and Judy. Meanwhile, Nick explores a different part of the lodge and nearly falls when a floor gives way. Bûcheron and Chèvre spot Nick and climb faster to get to the lodge. Nick warns her that the ZPD has found them, but Judy refuses to leave without solving the case, to which Nick tells her the case isn't worth dying for. As they stare at each other, they begin to consider that they are indeed too different to be partners.

Breaking up - literally.

Breaking up - literally.

Bûcheron and Chèvre burst through the wall and damage a supporting pillar in their attempts to apprehend Nick and Judy, causing the lodge to split in half, separating Judy and Nick. Judy saves a photo of Reptile Ravine when Pawbert suddenly appears and takes out one of the officers. Pawbert, who is joined by the snake, urges Judy to come with them, saying they can stop his family and find the truth. As Judy decides whether to go with him or stay with Nick, she is hit by a tranquilizer dart from an officer. She falls unconscious, and Nick watches as Pawbert and the snake take her away.

Nick is arrested as the Lynxleys arrive on the scene. Milton tries to force Nick to tell him where Judy went, but Nick refuses to say anything. Once inside the prison van, Milton claws Nick's paw and tells him that he's going to be put in a very dark place and will only be able to watch as Judy is killed. Cattrick then finds a tuft of Pawbert's fur, and Milton discerns that Pawbert helped Judy escape. Judy wakes up in the sidecar of Pawbert's motorcycle as it rides through the desert in Sahara Square. The snake introduces himself as Gary De'Snake, reassures her that he's not a threat as he carries an Anti-Venom Pen, and assures Judy they will succeed in finding the truth and saving Nick. They approach a campsite and Pawbert reassures her that they'll stop his family and save Nick.

At the campsite, Gary places the journal in front of a bonfire and stares at it. Pawbert explains that pit vipers can see heat, meaning Gary can detect images on the journal's cover that no mammal can see. Gary draws what he sees and reveals the journal's secret. As he does so, Judy wonders why Ebenezer Lynxley would hide a secret for a snake to find. Pawbert informs her that he didn't and Judy deduces the truth: the journal was not Ebenezer's after all, and that meant the weather walls weren't created by Ebenezer. The real creator and founder of Zootopia is Gary's great-grandmother, Agnes De'Snake. She dreamed of creating a place where all animals, including reptiles, can live side by side. After sketching out the plans in the journal, which also belonged to her, she received a patent that proved it was her idea. Pawbert further explains that Agnes asked Ebenezer to be her business partner, but he instead took credit for her invention, stealing her journal and throwing her patent in the fireplace. The Lynxleys' tortoise maid saved the patent, but Ebenezer killed her and blamed Agnes for it. He then activated the Tundratown weather walls, which completely buried Reptile Ravine in snow. It's reveal that, before she died, the tortoise used her remaining energy to give Agnes her patent, which she hid in her house before she was arrested. Pawbert and Gary reveal that they now know where her house is, as Gary draws a map of "Olde Zootopia" that he saw with his heat vision which shows Reptile Ravine, which is located somewhere in the mountains surrounding the Lynxley Manor. Judy studies a photo of Agnes's family, who are standing in front of a clock tower, and figures that they can find the reptile district if they can find the clock tower, but that, until now, they did not know its location. The tower is revealed to be on the land of Lynxley Manor. Gary tells her Agnes's drawings of the old power station can show them where it is.

Meanwhile, Nick is taken to his cell in prison, where he meets several ornery inmates. He tries to implore to Hoggbottom's better nature, telling her that the Lynxleys are lying and that, despite their differences, he always respected her. Hoggbottom cuts him off by remarking that Nick doesn't respect anyone, before Truffler brings her a message from Milton Lynxley regarding the location of Judy. AFter Hoggbottom and Truffler leave, Nick sees Nibbles in a cell too, who notices that Judy isn't with him. She asks him if he wants to talk about it, and he admits that Judy was his first real friend and he didn't want to lose her. Nibbles suddenly appears beside him and hugs him, revealing a key she created by gnawing on a mop handle. As she unlocks the cell, Nick overhears Hoggbottom telling her team to capture Judy in the desert. Once they are out of Nick's cell, Antony spots them and alerts the guards, who pursue Nick and Nibbles as they try to escape. They find themselves outside the cell of Dawn Bellwether, who has made all of her furniture out of wool. Nick and Nibbles accidentally open all the prison cells. The other prisoners realize they are free and run off, taking all the police cruisers parked outside the prison. Nibbles glumly remarks that, without a way to get there, they weren't going to be abel to get to Judy in time to help. Nick calls upon Flash Slothmore, who shows up in his car. Nick explains that they need to get across town, avoid the authorities and ignore the laws. Flash slowly says "no", but his full reply is soon revealed to be "no problem". On the drive to the desert, Nick calls Officer Clawhauser and asks him to trace Hoggbottom's location so he can reach Judy before she does. Clawhauser distracts Officer Moledebrandt and logs into his computer, finding Hoggbottom to be at Burning Mammal.

Cutting through the festival.

Cutting through the festival.

Judy, Gary, and Pawbert cut through the festival on their way to the weather wall, when the ZPD locate them and give chase. Upon realising that they tracked them using Pawbert's phone, Judy destroys it. Part-way through, Judy, Pawbert and Gary come across a tent housing Gazelle and her tiger dancers, who tell Judy they are with her. The Zebros barge into the tent, only to find themselves beaten up by an angry Gazelle and her dancers. As Judy, Gary and Pawbert make their way through Burning Mammal, Hoggbottom contacts Milton to tell him that the trio are headed to the weather wall. Milton realizes they are trying to expose the Lynxley family secret, and orders Hoggbottom to "put them down". Hoggbottom hesitantly aims a dart gun at Judy, but as she pulls the trigger, Flash arrives in his car, blocking the dart and allowing Judy, Pawbert and Gary to get inside the climate wall. As they reach the power station, Gary's presence frightens the station's workers, who flee and leave the door open. Judy deduces the switch to turn on the power of the reptile district is likely to be old and finds it inside a boarded-up room. Gary and Pawbert help Judy turn on the power switch that turns on Reptile Ravine's lights, and they spot the clock tower. Meanwhile, Nick is trapped outside the climate wall as it begins to heat up, but is saved at the last minute by Nibbles, who states the door got stuck.

Judy remarks that their last case had an unexpected twist at the end. Pawbert states he knows and he suddenly injects Judy with venom. Gary tries to bite Pawbert in retaliation, but Pawbert catches him and throws him outside into the cold. Pawbert tells Judy that they are both underdogs that have to prove they're as good as everyone else, and by destroying Agnes's patent, he will finally be accepted by his family. He takes Gary's fanny pack and leaves when he hears Nick calling for Judy. Judy begs Pawbert to stop and urges him to realize he can be different from his family, but he says he doesn't want to be different. While searching for Nick, he encounters Nibbles, and injects her with venom too.

Reconciliation.

Reconciliation.

An immobile Judy watches the security monitor, which shows Pawbert lunging at Nick on the roof. Gary assures her that they will succeed, and remembers that she is warm-blooded. He hugs her and gets his strength back by absorbing her heat. The ZPD burst in and assume Gary is trying to kill her. While he fights off the police, he calls out to Nick, who is still confronting Pawbert, telling him to retrieve his Anti-Venom Pen from his fanny pack. Nick and Pawbert wrestle over it, and the pen slides out of reach. The ground suddenly shifts, leaving them on a fragile ledge of ice. Pawbert tells Nick the pen isn't worth dying for, but Nick tells him 'agree to disagree' and rushes to throw it to Gary. Gary injects Judy with the pen, and she quickly recovers and races past several police officers on her way to help Nick. The ice ledge breaks, and Nick and Pawbert fall, but Nick is saved by Judy and Gary, the latter of which then goes to help Nibbles. Nick then hugs Judy, and becomes more emotional than she's ever seen from him before. He confesses that she is important to him and he is afraid of losing her. Judy confesses that she should never have left him behind, as he is the only partner she'd ever want. Nick informs her that he did not join the ZPD because he wanted to be a cop, but because he wanted to be part of a pack, and he has realised that Judy *is* his pack. Judy tearfully reciprocates, naming him her 'fluffle', which she explains means 'a bunsh of rabbits'. Nibbles interrupts and informs them that she survived, and Pawbert did too. Pawbert runs toward the Lynxley Manor, and Judy and Nick realize they have to find Agnes's patent before he does. They comandeer a snowmobile and a scarf for Gary and make their way to Lynxley Manor.

As Pawbert enters the manor, Milton grabs him and tells him he will never belong in the Lynxley family. Pawbert explains how he was trying to help the family and secure their secret when Judy, Nick, Nibbles and Gary arrive. Milton orders Pawbert to find the patent and destroy it, and Pawbert takes off to do so, picking up a jerry can of gas and matches. As Gary and Nibbles stay behind to take on the other Lynxleys, Judy and Nick chase Pawbert in a giant snow maze. They consider splitting up, but then find a snows plow to mow down the maze, allowing them to spot Pawbert hurrying out the maze's exit. Nick and Judy then confront Pawbert, who holds them down and tells them that he won't be stopped by 'a low-life fox and a dumb bunny'. Nick tells Pawbert that Judy is not a dumb bunny and that Pawbert is forgetting one thing - they are friends with a snake. Gary appears, wraps himself around Pawbert, throws him into the air and slams him into the snow, allowing Nick and Judy to tie him up. Meanwhile, Winddancer is convinced by Nibbles to be a hero instead of playing one on TV, and he takes down Milton, Cattrick and Kitty. With the Lynxleys now taken care of, Nick, Judy, Gary and Nibbles enter the clock tower and descend into Reptile Ravine. Gary finds his family home, and inside they find the original patent in a music box. Pawbert attempts to burn the house down one last time in a manic fit, but is put down by Hoggbottom.

The revelations of Agnes's contributions to the city and the Lynxley family's lies are publicized and soon spread throughout the city, and the Lynxleys are all arrested. Judy, Nick, Gary and Clawhauser visit Bogo in hospital, where Clawhauser gifts Bogo a box of donuts (with Paul still stuck in the hole of one), while Gary gives him a card saying 'I'm sorry I fanged you'. Dr. Fuzzby invites Judy and Nick back to her therapy class to be an example of strong partnership, where they explain their differences make them a better team. Reptile Ravine reopens and Zootopia happily welcomes back the reptiles. Gary throws a party at the De'Snake home and invites his family. During the party, Nick gifts Judy the carrot pen, which he has recovered and repaired. He tells her, "Love ya, partner," which she records and replays. Nick then asks for the pen back, and Judy promises to give it back after their next case. Nick asks whether their next case will happen, and Judy affirms yes - because, when he and Nibbles broke out of prison, they allowed 200 dangerous criminals to escape. When Nick asks where they should start, Judy smiles knowingly at him.

At an airport to Outback Island, Bellwether orders a first-class flight from Robert Furwin, unaware that Nick and Judy are watching her in disguise. As she waits for her flight, assured that she is about to get away, Nick and Judy pounce.

Afterward, Judy is in her apartment, with the repaired carrot pen on a stand. She plays Nick's "Love ya, partner" back a couple of times, causing her neighbors to interject. When they ask what her next case is, Judy pointedly says that it involves a rabbit who strangled her neighbors, causing the two to start arguing over offending Judy. As she leaves, a single feather floats next to the carrot pen, before being blown away.

  • When Pawbert is shown running into the giant snow maze, the theme from Stanley Kubrick's The Shining is quoted, and he also starts to move like that movie's protagonist Jack Torrance did in a similar hedge maze.
  • In an interview with Bush, he confirmed that the Razorbacks will be reworked into the film,[35] with a wild boar character seen in promotional artwork and in one scene in the teaser trailer in Tundratown sharing a strong resemblance with the boar member of the Razorbacks originally planned for Zootopia. During the official trailer you see the wild boar with Chief Bogo.[36][37]
  • In a 2016 interview with CinemaBlend, when the cast was inquired about the possibility of a sequel, Goodwin mentioned that she would like to see a reversal of roles between Judy and Nick, "I would like to see Nick have to be the one to convince Judy that the world is worth fighting for". Bateman added, wanting to see the two working together on the police force, "The two of us [Nick and Judy]. kicking butt out there. Cleaning up the streets. We're a couple of new cops out there. So, bad guys, be warned".[38]
  • McDonald's announced Zootopia 2 toys during their BOO BUCKETS happy meal event. The Happy Meal toys are Judy, Nick, "Judy on the Case" (wearing a cap and holding a fish), Gary, "Nick Hiding Out" (inside a table), Nibbles, Flash and Pawbert.

Mistakes[]

  • In the recap of the finale of Zootopia, Judy effortlessly kicks open the museum door with the leg that sustained a painful injury that rendered her unable to walk or stand.
  • Nick's fake driver's license photo is a picture of a squirrel, but still lists his species as a fox.
  • When Officer Bloats prepares to go underwater in the Marsh Market chase, his nametag reads "Bloat".[39]
  • Chief Bogo takes much longer to recover from the effects of the venom than Judy does. He had to remain hospitalized after being injected with antivenom, but Judy gained all her strength back immediately after her own antivenom injection. Although, this can be explained by differences in size, metabolism speed and types of anti-venom they have been injected with.
  • Towards the end of the tube chase, Nick opens the emergency exit which was located on the left side of the pipe. When the scene pans to them coming out, they exit from the right side of the pipe.
  • According to the timeline, only a few weeks have passed after the events of Zootopia, including the reveal of Fru Fru's pregnancy, however in the second movie she has already given birth and her daughter has reached an age of a toddler. This can be explained by short life-span of arctic shrews[40] , but it fails to correlate with Mr. Big's estimated age.
