Plot[]

Judy and Nick search a used goods store for items that look valuable to fill a bag with. Nick finds costume jewelry, which Judy deems perfect. Clawhauser quickly recounts the events of the previous issue for the readers, in which Judy caught Lou and Ross breaking into the city dump and heard them say they drop off bags at a canal boat at noon. Judy and Nick wait in the Canal District for the boat to drop off their bag in Lou and Ross's place, hoping an individual called "Nymo" will show up. The boat appears, and they toss the bag onto it as it passes by. Judy cheers and says she can now follow the bag with the tracking tag she left in it. Nick suggests they can just walk after it, but Judy says that if this operation is as big as she thinks, someone will be watching.

They return to the ZPD exhausted, and Clawhauser greets them, telling them how everyone is talking about how they busted Lou and Ross. Nick assumes this talk consists of dump jokes, but Clawhauser specifies that they were talking about how the bags were filled with valuables. Chief Bogo adds that Judy and Nick have once again found crime where there shouldn't be any, and orders them to interrogate Lou and Ross to find out more about their system. Nick notices the two criminals are just as tired as they are.

Nick questions Lou and Judy questions Ross, all four of them fighting through exhaustion. They reveal that they first got in touch with "Nymo" when the mystery animal left Lou a message with an offer of an easy job. The call didn't leave a number, but after the job was done, they were rewarded with a box of money. They never hear "Nymo's" voice, only receiving texts. When Judy and Nick take a break from the interrogation, Nick suggests they wait a minute and go back to tell their respective interrogatees that their partner revealed everything, but Judy doesn't think that will work, as she was also listening to Lou with an earpiece and the two criminals' stories line up. Nick says he has an idea, and requests that all four of them be in the interrogation room together.

Lou begs that Judy let he and Ross go back to their cells to sleep, but she declares that they're all staying awake until they "get something good". Later, Bogo arrives and finds the four of them asleep. He angrily wakes up Judy and scolds her, and Judy tells him that they questioned the criminals and got nothing - until they fell asleep. Talking in his sleep, Ross reveals that he and Lou received a message telling them to do a pickup the next day at the Spinybrook country club.

Nick and Judy go undercover at the country club as "Rick and Trudy", where club employee Leeza welcomes them. She insists that "Trudy" looks familiar and that she has seen her somewhere, but Judy nervously denies this. "Rick" lies and tells Leeza that he and "Trudy" are screening the club on behalf of their busy buffalo employer who is looking for a place to keep his family busy and happy. As Leeza gets them a map, Nick asks Judy if she can stick with his story, and Judy is impressed with how easy he makes it look to decieve others. Nick explains that one has to prepare a backstory that is hard to question and anticipate everything someone might ask, but he personally just wings it.

As Leeza takes them on a tour of the country club, Mr. Muller demands her attention. She says that most of the clubs members are easygoing, but Muller is a bit demanding. Muller complains that an appointment for a massage he wanted was booked, which Leeza says she will ask about. Several club members then confront her in a panic, telling her that their jewelry is missing. As she becomes preoccupied with them, Judy and Nick slip away to look around for a drop spot that Ross mentioned. They look inside some bags of leaves, and are questioned by the groundskeeper. Nick struggles to come up with a lie, but Judy jumps in and tells the groundskeeper that Nick is an elderly club member who is confused and thinks the leaf bags, which he occasionally drops keepsakes in, are his luggage. The groundskeeper believes them and drives away, and Nick tells Judy she is getting the hang of undercover work. Leeza then catches up to them and insists they see the inside of the clubhouse.

As she shows them the inside, she gets a phone call she has to take and suggests they mingle with the club members. Judy spots Tripp Zebrando nearby, and realizes that if he notices her and Nick their cover will be blown. He does indeed notice Judy and tries to get her attention, but Nick causes a diversion by disguising himself as a waiter and spilling pudding on her, giving them a chance to leave with the excuse that she needs to be cleaned up.

Judy asks if he has a towel to wipe the pudding off, and Nick says that he "sort of" does, spraying her off with a hose. The groundskeeper then appears and tells them he found something they might want to see. As he drives them in a golf cart, he explains that someone left a filled lawn bag under a tree. They find the bag and Nick notices that someone else is checking it out, with Judy clarifying that he is actually bringing something, remembering the club members complaining about missing valuables. This someone else is Mr. Muller. Leeza catches up to them, wondering why everyone is out here. Judy explains that the missing valuables have been stolen by Muller, who tries to play it off as him just going for a stroll before admitting to the crime.

He explains that he can no longer afford the country club's rising membership fee, and received a mysterious box of money with a promise of more in exchange for precious metal items, which is why he stole from everyone. Judy asks if he got a text, which Muller confirms. The text is from an account labeled "ANONYMOUS", telling Muller to leave the leaf bag under the tree and that his money will be left in his member cubby hole. Judy realizes that "Nymo" is just "anonymous", and Nick commends the theft ring's ability to keep its mastermind untraceable.

Judy checks the app for the tracking tag, but the bag it is in is still on the canal boat, meaning the trail has gone cold. Muller offers to give them intel on the operation's hotspot on the condition that the country club doesn't press charges against him.

Goofs[]

  • The comic's official description mistakenly refers to both Lou and Ross as raccoons.
  • Judy incorrectly refers to Ross as Lou when she says he talks in his sleep.
  • On some pages, the rims on Leeza's glasses are blue. On other pages, they are purple.
  • The way Tripp's conversation with a fellow club member is worded implies that he is disappointed that the Fauna Air crew survived the airship explosion.
  • On the page where Muller admits to and explains his burglaries, his trousers are yellow instead of their usual red.
